MAIN SUBMISSION NOTICE:
This is my primary project for the Bolt Hackathon – “Melly & The AI Agent Squad.” Please review this for official judging.
Inspiration
As a seasoned OHS compliance consultant juggling clients, training, and admin, I needed a scalable, always-on assistant that could think like me—but work faster. Melly was born from that need: a proactive AI HQ to handle documents, email, invoicing, sales, and compliance—all while keeping that South African flavor alive. The goal? Replace stress with smart systems, and empower safety from the ground up.
What it does
Melly & The AI Agent Squad is an AI-powered assistant system designed to automate occupational health and safety (OHS) compliance, training, and business operations. Key capabilities include:
Auto-generating risk assessments, policies, and training packs
Managing safety certificates with built-in date and ID automation
Executing email and file organization (Gmail + Google Drive)
Multilingual safety translations (Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho, Afrikaans, more)
Built-in team: Trainer Teko (content), Ledger Lana (finance), Sales Sizwe (store), Hustle Gana (side gigs), Launch Lwazi (video posts)
Seamless integration with Gemini, OpenAI, Firebase, Framer, ElevenLab
How we built it
We designed and deployed the system using:
OpenAI (GPT-4o) for core reasoning and automation logic
Gemini + Google Workspace for integrations (Docs, Drive, Gmail)
Framer for the responsive OHS Haven website
Firebase for backend data and user management
ElevenLabs for multilingual voice cloning
Python for automation scripts
Airtable & Notion for dashboards and task tracking
Canva & AI image tools for all branded content and poster generation
Challenges we ran into
Integrating multiple tools without slowing down performance
Ensuring AI-generated OHS content stayed legally accurate
Fine-tuning Melly’s personality to feel both professional and human
Translating safety content into multiple South African languages with local tone
Balancing automation speed with trust and control in sensitive workflows
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Fully automated OHS file generation across industries
Deployed multilingual training packs for service stations
Created a character-driven AI squad people actually want to work with
Built a monetizable e-commerce system for selling posters, videos, and merch
Grew from concept to full platform with revenue-ready tools Getting Melly from concept to working prototype during the Bolt Hackathon proved just how much you can automate in record time when the pressure’s on.
What we learned
AI is powerful, but structure is everything—without clear logic, chaos rules
South African users respond best to real, relatable content (local slang = 🔥)
Voice matters. Melly’s tone helps bridge the gap between automation and trust
Less is more: keeping systems clean and intentional made scaling easier
Delegation to AI agents boosts productivity (and reduces burnout!)
What's next for Melly & The AI Agent Squad
e’re also exploring ways to scale Melly as a licensed assistant across industries—thanks to the exposure and momentum from the Bolt Hackathon.
