Inspiration

During Covid, the overall loneliness made me wish for a friend over the internet. I joined discord, made many servers while working on my fictional writing. I made Mellie, a character based on my sister, who works to make the world a better place. I then decided that MellieBot would be a good idea, and a great way to brighten peoples' days.

What it does

Mellie can send people randomized motivational messages, and say ILY to people who use the mb!love command. She can also tell people how to use her.

How we built it

Mellie is an application on discord and utilizes the discord.py library. It was developed in VS code using events.

Challenges we ran into

Mellie faced some issues when it came to sending back messages, especially into certain channels. Mellie also couldn't quite

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of how Mellie can respond to most of the commands I thought of. Mellie can respond to the motivation, help, and love commands perfectly.

What we learned

I have learned about bot development as this is my first main discord bot and my first big python project outside of basic print statements. I have learned about bot development on discord, and I'm really proud of what I have accomplished with Mellie.

What's next for Mellie

Next up, I am going to make Mellie send hugs to people using an image I drew myself.
