Google Maps API: To integrate real-time maps for locating shuttle stops and planning routes effectively. OpenAI API: To create an intelligent chatbot that assists users with queries about shuttle schedules and routes. Frontend Development: Enhanced our skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for building an intuitive user interface.
How We Built It Map Integration: Using the Google Maps API, we added features like a searchable map, route details, and the ability to find the nearest shuttle stop. Chatbot: Leveraged OpenAI’s API to develop "MelBee," a chatbot that provides shuttle information and guidance. Quiz: Included a fun quiz about the university to keep users entertained while waiting for their shuttle. UI Design: Built a responsive and user-friendly interface using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges We Faced Integrating APIs: Learning how to efficiently use the Google Maps API and OpenAI API was initially challenging, but it helped us understand their immense potential. Data Management: Structuring shuttle schedules and ensuring accurate data presentation took careful planning. Design Consistency: Ensuring the web application’s design was both functional and visually appealing required iterative testing and improvements.
The Outcome MelBus is more than just a shuttle tracker; it’s a complete companion for the university community. It makes commuting seamless, informative, and even entertaining, addressing both practical needs and moments of downtime.
We’re excited about how MelBus could transform shuttle systems and look forward to expanding its features in the future!
