Inspiration
Inspired by the theme of NSBE Hacks and Black History Month, we decided to build an application for black students.
What it does
Melanin Minds is a website for black students to get resources and support tailored towards them, and to highlight black excellence and academics.
How we built it
We built the back-end using Node.js and Express, and the front-end was developed using React, CSS, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
We had a lot of difficultly implementing the Co:Here API as it was our first time using it. We also ran into a lot of problems connecting our front-end with our back-end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Compared to our team’s first hack, we’re proud to have a nicer UI than before! We also were able to get our website to be mostly(!!) functional.
What we learned
We learned how to use React Hooks, and we are a lot more familiar now with Co:Here and implementing APIs in general.
What's next for Melanin Minds
We would like to implement more of what we had planned for our websites like the mental health resources and the other buttons. We also would want to fix our UI a bit more.
