We wanted a way to help people fill slots in events and allow them to discover new events and friends.
What it does
Allows people to post new events, where others are free to browse through them and join the ones of interest.
How we built it
Apps were built for both Android and Apple devices. The Android app was developed in Android Studio using Java. The Apple App was developed with XCode. The back-end was developed with a combination of PHP and MySQL.
Challenges we ran into
This was our first time developing an Android app using Android Studio, and we found that it had a fairly steep learning curve. Properly interfacing between the apps and back-end also proved to be more of a challenge than expected.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developing our first Android app, and utilizing so many different components / environments in creating a unique and novel product. We also created a completely custom back-end from scratch to support our app.
What we learned
We gained a lot of experience in developing using Android studio, and also with back-end development and app development in general.
What's next for MeetUp
Improving the API to support https and more secure protocols of transmitting data. Adding Ads to monetize the service.
