MeetCute

Inspiration

Struggling with meeting new people, and especially with finding people with similar interests, we wanted to make a tool that we could utilize to help others struggling with the same problem. We thought it would be a cute way to meet people with similar vibes!

What it does

You have a profile, filled with your interests. You can also set your age range, as well as your distance range. While the app is open, you will get notifications when other users with your age, distance, and interest preference are in your area. You will get a notification, and you can choose to accept or deny. If you accept, they become a friend, and you can plan your own MeetCute through the chat!

How we built it

We built it with an NodeJS/Express backend. We utilized MongoDB Atlas to host our data. We utilized TinyMCE for writing data to the chat portion.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many problems with scope creep, learning new technologies, and an extreme amount of debugging. One big issue is when one feature served as a blocker before other features could get done. (Like when we attempted to use Auth0).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our UI, as it is quite excellent and works seamlessly on both desktop and mobile. We were able to build it in raw Javascript, without using a framework.
