Inspiration
Feeling isolated while working from home was a common experience in the team and we wanted to create a solution to address that.
What it does
Connects employees together through company scheduled breaks and an interactive video call to discuss a mutual topic of interest.
How we built it
Used the dart and flutter to build the app because flutter is great for porting the app to multiple platforms such as web, android, and ios. We also wanted to focus on UI/UX design and the powerful rendering tools at flutter could help us target this goal.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we faced was coming up with a solution to facilitate conversation during the video call. It is very common for people to be uncomfortable and awkward talking to others over video calls and we've tried to streamline this by adding profile cards with something the employee likes in an attempt to provide a conversation starter. Furthermore, rooms have been limited to 4 employees max to keep the conversations engaging and promote contribution from each participant.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Working together to come up with a design we think looks user-friendly and intuitive. We focussed on maintaining a clean and elegant interface whilst still providing rich features within the app. We are very proud of how we designed the finished product.
What we learned
We learned how important it is to have a good design thought out before we got started with any coding. Knowing exactly what we wanted and how it should be laid out really helped to accelerate our workflow when it came to coding the app.
What's next for Meet4Coffee
- Finalising cross-platform integrations
- Improving the video call layout/user interface
- Adding additional features to the Game and Workout rooms to differentiate the activities
