Inspiration
We are a group of indecisive individuals, especially when it comes to picking a restaurant when we eat out. Coming to a collective decision for which restaurant to eat at is difficult and time-consuming. The inspiration for Meet2Eat is simplifying this decision making process and adding anonymity in everyone's opinions.
What it does
Meet2Eat is like a Tinder for restaurants. Group of friends can join a room where they will be presented with a plethora of delicious restaurants in the area. Swipe right on food you like and swipe left on food you dislike. If there is a restaurant everyone is keen on (or most people are keen on), Meet2Eat will decide that is the restaurant for your group!
How we built it
Based on the location set by the group leader, Google Maps APIs provide the list of nearby restaurants. From here, the restaurants could be generated into cards for the users to swipe with the help of the frontend: Vue.
Challenges we ran into
Unfortunately too many to count :(. The main issue was integration of everyone’s individual contributions and skill sets. More planning ahead of time and research would have helped save time and get everyone on the same page earlier!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of what the team has achieved over a short weekend period. Coming up with a prototype was a challenge (particularly due to the time constraints) but we are very proud of our final product.
What we learned
We learned a lot about ourselves and also each other. Team members helped teach each other new skill sets such as Vue.js, Geolocation and Google Maps API.
What's next for Meet2Eat
Meet2Eat plans to extend the basic functionality with many more features! Feature plans include scheduling time for eating out, working with food delivery options such as uberEats and adding reactions to restaurant profiles. Another plan is to include options for dietary requirements. We plan on also showing all close matches at the end rather than just one.
