Inspiration
To promote socialization between communities of distant friends.
What it does
Finds an ideal hang-out location determined by the distance and preferences between a group of people.
How we built it
HTML and CSS were used for the front-end, while Python was used for the back-end. We used Django as the framework to develop our website. Django allowed us to create a database for storing Room and User information and passing info between pages. To get the ideal location, we used Google Maps API to find the best location based on geographic coordinates and preferences keywords.
Challenges we ran into
Django was a new framework for all of us. Learning to use Django forms to connect front-end and back-end was tricky to figure out, but we managed to do it. We also ran into trouble with getting a Google Static Map due to API-key authorization/file retrieval problems.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have made nice-looking, functioning website given the time constraints. We're pleasantly surprised to have familiarized ourselves with Django.
What we learned
Through the implementation pf our site, we continued to develop our computer science abilities as well as creative ones like brainstorming and design. Everyone had a unique skill or perspective that contributed to the project and to our knowledge.
What's next for "Meet Ya There!"
Expanding it to not just restaurants and cuisine, but all types of locations and parameters. We hope to make it the ideal group itinerary planner for all types of people, places, and occasions.
