Inspiration
In areas where cities are within an hour away, it can be difficult to arrange rendezvous points with friends to hang out at or places to meet up. With more than 2 people, the difficulty only increases.
What it does
Meet-up is a tool that allows users to sign in and enter their locations. Afterwards, they can search for places to meet which considers the people they select in terms of distance or time. This allows friends to keep their addresses anonymous while still allowing for easy planning among friend groups.
Challenges we ran into
How do we keep the user anonymous - we considered just having this tool be a one off tool in the moment where one person collects addresses and chooses a destination for everyone to meet up at. However, this also loses anonymity and generally makes it more work for the person planning the rendezvous anyway. Additionally we wanted to make it so that it wasn't limited to just addresses. Luckily with Google Maps API, we were able to use find destinations that weren't limited to addresses or coordinates, you could search up "Boba" or "Mcdonalds" and now it will actually list out all the locations within a certain radius of a midpoint between all participants.
What's next for Meet up
Planning to go Open source and make further progress by making the UI easier to interact with and better security. Additionally, we want to add more customization between choosing the "best" place to meet. If someone's address is an outlier, do we make everyone travel a little bit further to accomodate or do we just make it a little more difficult for that one person.
