Inspiration
Board games create shared moments, but discovering a game and understanding its rules can interrupt the fun. Meeplia aims to make a small board-game library easy to explore and to make the path from discovering a game to playing it clear.
What it does
Meeplia is a browser-based board-game platform with an English and Japanese interface. Its current public site presents a game library and distinguishes reviewed playable games from archived legacy records. The reviewed built-in games currently shown in the public library are Reversi - Web Edition, Animal Mini Shogi, and Nested Trio.
Development status — currently building
Meeplia's iOS companion app is currently under development (building). iOS is the target platform for the native app. The publicly available demo is currently the web application at https://meeplia.app. The iOS app is not yet published on the App Store; native store publication has been postponed. The public web Creator page explains that game creation is being rebuilt and is not available yet.
How we built it
The web application uses Next.js, React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL. Development also includes a separate board-game SDK and visual-authoring work, intended to support structured game definitions and intuitive creation across devices. Those development features are not presented as available on the current public website.
Codex assisted with implementation, debugging, tests, and release preparation. Descriptions of the current website were checked against its live public pages rather than inferred from development branches.
Challenges we ran into
A flexible game creator needs a clear boundary between game data and executable code. The previous executable HTML and JavaScript creation path has been retired, and the public product explains the transition to validated game definitions.
Another challenge is keeping a large development roadmap separate from what users can actually access today. We chose to describe the public web release honestly while continuing SDK and Studio development.
Accomplishments
We have a live web presence, a board-game discovery interface, and a clear distinction between reviewed playable games and archived records. Development of the independent SDK and visual-authoring foundation provides a direction for expanding creation without requiring users to write code.
What we learned
Publication, billing, and judge access are product requirements as well as technical tasks. A development integration or a passing local test does not by itself establish a publicly available feature or a completed commercial purchase flow.
RevenueCat and monetization
RevenueCat integration work has been undertaken for the planned native client. This web-only release does not claim a verified live RevenueCat purchase, a store release, premium-access promotion code, revenue, downloads, or retention results.
How to inspect the current web release
- Open https://meeplia.app and choose Start playing.
- Browse the game library at https://meeplia.app/games. Reviewed games and archived records are identified separately.
- Open https://meeplia.app/create to inspect the current Creator transition notice.
What's next
Continue developing structured game creation and an intuitive visual Studio; verify end-to-end publication and billing before enabling paid capabilities; and revisit native distribution when its release requirements are ready.
Demo materials
The prepared demo is a 57-second English-captioned walkthrough using real screenshots of the public web application and a real legal-move interaction. The attached 1179 × 2556 screenshot is explicitly labeled as a web demo; it is not evidence of a published iOS app.
