Inspiration : As populations age in Thailand and Singapore, many elders take multiple drugs for NCDs—often with herbs and supplements. This raises real risks, yet people lack simple safety checks. MedXpert makes medication safety clear, accessible, and visual—so people use medicines and herbs safely, not fear them.

What it does: MedXpert is a smart drug interaction checker. Snap a photo or scan a barcode, and AI instantly analyzes the product using localized data. Results appear as simple visuals: green for safe, or a clear warning if not. What makes MedXpert unique is that we transform dense text from traditional drug interaction apps into clear, visual explanations—so anyone can understand and stay aware.”

How we built it: We began with data from 5 common drugs and supplements, turning complex interaction data into simple visuals. We also explored barcode scanning and machine learning to recognize products from shelf images—so MedXpert can work in real-life settings. What sets us apart is the ability to take complicated scientific text, like in WebDrug or other databases, and transform it into easy-to-grasp infographics powered by AI. For now, we’ve built a demo—but it’s the foundation for something much bigger

Challenges we ran into: Our biggest challenge was balancing scientific accuracy with ease of use. Localizing drug and herbal data for Thailand and Singapore also required careful curation. And making complex interactions understandable for everyone pushed us beyond traditional databases.

Accomplishments that we're proud of: We built a prototype that demonstrates the full flow: scan, analyze, and deliver instant visual results. We transformed dense scientific data into simple answers anyone can understand. Most importantly, we proved that pharmacology, AI, and human-centered design can work together. A small local survey also showed strong satisfaction with MedXpert among community users.

What we learned;

-Keep it simple → People need clear visuals, but we also keep detailed data for doctors and pharmacists, updated continuously.

  • Evidence first → All data is grounded in systematic reviews and scientific support, while recognizing the value of traditional uses.
  • Localization counts → Drug and herbal interactions vary by region; local data is essential.
  • AI + design together → AI must be trained now to support users, building the foundation for future big data that will benefit the country.
  • Build trust → Safe use of medicines, herbs, and supplements is possible—with the right guidance.

What's next for MedXpert

Next, we’ll expand beyond 100 drugs to thousands, including region-specific herbs and supplements. Our priority will be the most clinically significant interactions, guided by systematic reviews to ensure evidence-based data. We’ll refine machine learning for product recognition and prepare integration with EMRs and pharmacy systems. Just as important, we will generate clear visuals from existing drug interaction applications—transforming complex text into simple, understandable graphics. Our vision is clear: MedXpert as a trusted guardian of medication safety across Asia and beyond.
