Inspiration
Hospitals depend on medical equipment to provide timely patient care, but locating and tracking equipment across departments can be challenging. This inspired us to develop MedTrack–AVS, a smart hospital asset tracking system that helps staff identify equipment, monitor its location, and manage asset movement efficiently.
What it does
Through this project, we gained practical experience in full-stack web development, REST API integration, database management, secure authentication, QR code scanning, GPS tracking, real-time dashboards, and AI integration. We also learned the importance of responsive design, data security, and building reliable applications for real-world healthcare needs.
How we built it
We built MedTrack–AVS using React for the frontend, Java Spring Boot for the backend, and MySQL for database management. The system integrates QR code scanning, GPS-based location tracking, geofencing alerts, asset transfer management, analytics dashboards, and an AI Assistant that helps users access authorized operational information. We also used modern web technologies to create a responsive and user-friendly interface.
Challenges we ran into
Some of our main challenges included integrating the frontend with backend APIs, configuring database connectivity, implementing secure authentication and role-based access, handling QR scanner and camera permissions, and preparing the application for cloud deployment. We addressed these challenges through systematic testing, debugging, and step-by-step improvements.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have developed MedTrack–AVS, a smart hospital asset tracking system that combines QR code scanning, GPS tracking, real-time dashboards, geofencing alerts, asset transfer management, analytics, and an AI Assistant. We integrated a React frontend with a Java Spring Boot backend and MySQL database to create a responsive, user-friendly application. Our project aims to improve equipment visibility, strengthen accountability, and make hospital asset management more efficient.
What we learned
We gained hands-on experience in full-stack web development, REST API integration, database connectivity, secure authentication, QR code scanning, GPS integration, and real-time data handling. We also learned how to troubleshoot integration issues, test application features, improve user interface design, and prepare a web application for cloud deployment. This project strengthened our teamwork, problem-solving, and practical software development skills.
What's next for MedTrack-AVS
Our next goal is to improve MedTrack–AVS with more accurate indoor location tracking, enhanced predictive analytics, and smarter AI-powered recommendations. We aim to expand mobile accessibility, improve notifications for misplaced equipment, and conduct real-world testing in hospital environments. In the future, we hope to help healthcare organizations reduce equipment-search time, optimize resource utilization, and ensure that essential medical equipment is available when and where it is needed.
