Inspiration
Emily is a 40-year-old PHD student with depression and a 9-5 job, who has husband with high blood pressure and one son who is visually impaired. She has weekly consultation sessions with multiple psychologists and needs to take more than one medication and daily vitamins for her depression and general health. Her struggle to keep her healthcare organized amidst her busy life inspired us to create MedSync—an app designed to simplify the management of prescriptions and medical appointments. We envisioned a tool that not only serves Emily but also eases similar burdens for anyone balancing health management with daily life.
What it does
MedSync is more than just a medication organizer—it's a comprehensive health assistant. Our app helps users efficiently organize and manage their prescriptions and vitamins, ensures consistent adherence to medication schedules, and seamlessly tracks and manages upcoming medical appointments. It stands out by allowing family profile management, enabling users to manage multiple family members' prescriptions and appointments under one account.
How we built it
We used Figma to craft an intuitive and accessible design tailored to the needs of users like Emily. Our team focused on core features such as enhanced accessibility options like text-to-speech, and AI-powered reminders that adapt to users' schedules, AI-powered scanning, voice input, and customizable visual settings. These features ensure that our app is usable by everyone, regardless of their technical skills or physical abilities.
Challenges we ran into
Deciding our target users and defining the core functionalities of MedSync were our initial hurdles. We wanted to create something unique yet indispensable. The process involved numerous brainstorming sessions and adjustments to tailor our features to best support our users, like Emily, who manage both a busy life and complex health needs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of developing an app that supports personalized healthcare management. Our family profile management and direct communication with healthcare providers are innovations that set MedSync apart in a crowded market. Additionally, the implementation of AI to optimize medication and appointment reminders based on personal schedules represents a significant technical achievement.
What we learned
This project was a journey in understanding user needs deeply and translating them into UI/UX design. Engaging directly with potential users like Emily provided insights that drove our feature development, ensuring practicality and usability.
What's next for MedSync
*We plan to include integration with wearable devices, telemedicine support, prescription refill automation, medication interaction warnings in MedSync. In the future, users can sync the app with smartwatches or fitness trackers, conduct virtual consultations with doctors directly through the app, partner with pharmacies to offer automatic prescription refills, and implement a feature that alerts users if there are potential interactions between different medications they are taking. *
