Inspiration
Medspeak refers to the medical terminology used by healthcare professionals that can be difficult for patients to understand. This leads to communication gaps and misunderstandings. We aim to flip Medspeak on its head and make it so that patients can easily understand what their doctors are saying.
What it does
MedSpeak is a web tool that helps everyone decode medical language from doctor notes, discharge summaries, or online results into plain English.
How we built it
For the front end, we used React, Typescript, and Tailwind. For the back end, we used the Gemini API, Supabase, Elevenlabs, Google OAuth, and Merriam-Webster API.
Challenges we ran into
The homepage was a pain to design and implement since it used multiple types of input. We especially needed to figure out how the audio feature was going to work alongside the other inputs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We completed all the things we set out to do!
What we learned
We learned how to use Supabase and Elevenlabs.
What's next for MedSpeak
We want to add a translation feature that would help those in the immigrant community who struggle to understand their doctor due to language barriers.
