Inspiration

Medical education is notoriously overwhelming - dense textbooks, complex terminology, and abstract concepts that are hard to grasp. As a friend to medical students, I have seen firsthand how difficult it can be to understand foundational concepts when they're buried in jargon. I realized that if I could break down complex medical topics into simple, relatable explanations, it would benefit not just patients, but also medical students who are still learning. MedSimple was born from the need to make medicine understandable for everyone - from curious patients to struggling pre-med and medical students.

What it does

MedSimple is an AI-powered web application that transforms complex medical information into simple, everyday language for two key audiences:

For the general public: Explains medical conditions, procedures, and concepts using 5th-grade vocabulary and familiar analogies. For medical students: Breaks down complex pathophysiology, pharmacology, and clinical concepts into digestible explanations that help with studying and comprehension.

It uses interactive Q&A, step-by-step breakdowns, and real-life analogies to make learning medicine accessible whether you're a patient trying to understand your diagnosis or a student cramming for anatomy.

How we built it

AI Integration: Google Gemini 2.0 Flash API for natural language processing. Architecture: Single-page application. Design: Mobile-first responsive design perfect for studying on any device. API Management: Implemented graceful error handling and rate limiting. Educational Focus: Designed prompts to serve both patient education and medical student learning needs.

Challenges we ran into

*Getting the right prompt to: *

Ensuring simplified explanations remained scientifically sound for educational purposes Creating a system that could explain everything from "What is blood pressure?" to "Explain the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system".

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created a versatile tool that serves both patient education and medical student learning. Built a responsive interface that works perfectly for mobile studying.

What's next for MedSimple

Flashcard generation from explanations.
