The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey (HCAHPS) is a landmark, nationally standardized, and publicly reported appraisal of patients’ own perspective of hospital care (CMS.gov). Due to its significant impact on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) overall Hospital Quality Initiative (HQI) and reimbursement rating, many efforts exist aiming to analyze, understand, and ultimately improve HCAHPS survey results for their institution. In recent case reports, the aid of hospital pharmacy staff and services has been shown to dynamically impact and improve HCAHPS survey results (ASHP.org).
Meds n' Bed aims to educate patients on their medications while assessing and addressing their pain. We hope to show an improvement in HCAHPS scores. This will be accomplished through the development of a specific protocol and technological platform for students and staff to use while educating their patients.
