Inspiration Medication prices vary widely between nearby pharmacies, yet most people only discover this after paying. We wanted a simple way to reveal cheaper options instantly and make medicine more affordable and accessible.
What it does MedPrice AI scans prescriptions or medicine packages using AI-powered OCR and identifies the medication automatically. It compares real-time prices across nearby pharmacies, suggests generic alternatives, and helps users choose the lowest total cost before visiting a pharmacy.
How we built it We built MedPrice AI using a web-based architecture with an AI OCR system for prescription scanning, a price aggregation layer for pharmacy comparison, and geolocation services to calculate nearby stores. The interface was designed to make scanning, comparing, and selecting pharmacies fast and simple.
Challenges we ran into Prescription formats vary widely, making OCR accuracy difficult. Matching scanned medicine names with real pharmacy listings required careful normalization. Real-time price comparison and location accuracy also required tuning to keep results reliable and fast.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We built a working system that scans prescriptions and produces usable price comparisons within seconds. The generic-switch feature delivers clear savings instantly, and the basket comparison shows real cost differences across pharmacies.
What we learned We learned how to combine AI with real-world data in a practical workflow. We improved our understanding of OCR limitations, data matching, and building fast AI-powered interfaces that solve real problems.
What's next for MedPrice AI Next, we plan to improve OCR accuracy, expand pharmacy coverage, and introduce live availability checks. We also want to add user accounts, prescription history, and smarter recommendations for long-term medication savings.
