Inspiration:
The inspiration of this app was truly the need of the moment. We have two health professional students in our team that face these mental health challenges far too often. Unfortunately, institutions don’t have measures or proper interventions to mitigate these issues, so we decided to provide that safe space for medics to express their feelings and at the same time access good content relevant to their varying mood aspect.
What it does:
MedMood provides resources and a healthy environment for students faced with mental health challenges. Our chat-based app generates responses to common mental health problems that students face. Not only does it provide students with content in multiple forms (music, positive quotes, advices, helpline access) but it provides them a buddy they can talk to. We understand how important therapy is!
How we built it: We built the app using ANDROID studio and the prototype using proto.io.
Challenges we ran into
We faced challenges understanding actual issues of the medics and finding feasible and user-friendly solution to mitigate the issue. Not only that, we didn't want to overwhelm the users with loads of modalities or content, so limiting the mood choices and stratifying them further was a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we as a team unanimously found this app to be beneficial for the target audience and having developed a working prototype, we believe this app to be a feasible solution.
What we learned
We learned about how teamwork and multidisciplinary collaborations play a important role in developing an intervention in health space. Also along with that we got to learn about the real world mental health challenges that are faced by healthcare students and how that could be addressed.
What's next for MedMood
We see strength in the working model of this app and plan to pursue it in the future. We believe we have a solid team and with an experienced stakeholder onboard we can continue brainstorming further.
