Inspiration
The current system for managing patient data is not secure and it is very tedious process for accessing the data. Patient data is often stored on centralized systems that are vulnerable to hacking and data breaches. This can lead to the theft of patient data, which can be used for identity theft, fraud, and other crimes.
What it does
The goal of this project is to develop a secure and efficient system for managing patient data using blockchain technology. The system will store patient data on the blockchain, which would make it very difficult for hackers to access and steal. The system will also need to be able to securely share patient data with authorized users, such as healthcare providers and researchers.
How we built it
React enabled the development of a user-friendly interface, while Solidity and Hardhat provided the backbone for blockchain integration and smart contract functionality. The project consists of three main components:
- A web interface that allows users to interact with the smart contracts and view their NFTs.
- A backend server that handles the communication between the web interface and the smart contracts.
- An off-chain storage platform that stores the metadata of the NFTs, such as name, description, image URL, etc.
Challenges we ran into
Understanding and implementing blockchain technology. Ensuring the security of patient data and preventing unauthorized access. Educating patients about the benefits of blockchain technology.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building a functioning system for managing patient data using blockchain technology is a significant accomplishment. Educating patients about the benefits of blockchain technology and successfully helping them understand its usage is a significant accomplishment. Empowering patients with knowledge about the security and privacy advantages of the system can lead to increased trust and adoption.
What we learned
Blockchain technology can be complex, and it is important to invest time and effort in thoroughly understanding its principles and capabilities before starting the project. Finding ways to implement health data regualtions and ensuring data safety and privacy. Providing user-friendly resources, instructions, and support can help patients understand the benefits and usage of blockchain in securing their data.
What's next for MedLink
Explore opportunities to integrate the blockchain-based patient data management system with existing healthcare systems, such as electronic health record (EHR) systems or hospital information systems. Seamless integration can enhance data interoperability and streamline workflows.
