Inspiration
I started thinking about how difficult health topics can feel when they are explained with complicated terminology. Many students want to understand health and medical concepts, but finding clear, simple, and engaging explanations is not always easy.
That inspired me to turn the idea of a health information tool into a learning experience with MedLearn.
What it does
MedLearn is an AI-powered health learning platform that helps users understand health concepts through simple explanations, an educational health library, quizzes, and feedback.
Users can explore health topics, learn about medical terms and concepts, take quizzes, and review their results.
The learning flow is:
Learn → Practice → Quiz → Review → Improve
The quiz experience lets users choose educational topics and answer multiple-choice questions. After completing a quiz, MedLearn shows their score, explains answers, highlights areas they understood well, and suggests topics they may want to review.
MedLearn is designed for education, not diagnosis or treatment.
How we built it
MedLearn is built as a web application using React, TypeScript, and modern web technologies.
AI is a core part of the learning experience. Google Gemini is used to provide educational explanations, support question generation, and help explain answers in a way that is easier to understand.
The application also includes a health library with organized educational content and browser-based progress storage so users can continue reviewing their learning.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was making health information simple without removing important meaning.
Another challenge was using AI in a way that actually supports learning instead of making the project just another chatbot. We focused on connecting explanations with quizzes, feedback, and review so users can actively test their understanding.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of turning health information into an interactive learning experience.
MedLearn combines educational articles, AI-powered explanations, quizzes, results, and learning progress in one platform. The goal is to make health concepts easier to understand and more approachable for students and other learners.
What we learned
This project taught us that AI can be much more useful in education when it helps people understand and practice, rather than simply giving them an answer.
We also learned that clear explanations, interactive questions, and useful feedback can make learning more engaging.
What's next for MedLearn
Future versions could include adaptive quizzes, personalized learning paths, stronger progress tracking, more health topics, and additional ways for learners to practice difficult concepts.
The goal is simple:
Make health education easier to understand, easier to practice, and more engaging to learn.
