Inspiration
As advancements in medicine and healthcare improve, many new pathological conditions and problems are being cured and treated in a plethora of ways. One of these ways is a drug in the form of a capsule, or pill. We have realized that older people have a harder time with their larger number of medicines to keep track of. This could detriment the impacts of the initial point of the medicine. Therefore, we decided that something had to be done.
What it Does
MediTrack is a calendar app that allowing anyone to import their medical information and pills which are being taken, and organize them onto a structured sheet in which everything is laid out and easy to understand. They are able to see a to-do list as to if they have taken the pill, see when they have to refill their prescriptions, and lay out the schedule and dosage of each medication. This integrated environment makes healthcare and taking care of yourself very easy and organized.
How we built it
To develop our website, we mainly used HTML, CSS, Javascript, Flash, and Python. We started off by creating a log-in page which would take/store information into a database, associating information with a certain account. From there, we created the actual calendar site. When an account was initially created, they would be asked questions, such as name, age, weight, height, and medication. This data could also later be altered in the profile page. HTML and CSS were used for the visuals of the cite, whereas Javascript and Python were mainly used for the functionality, with Python code being converted into Flash.
Challenges we ran into
When developing this site, the biggest challenge we run into was incorporating the database with Flash code, and allowing it to start storing information. There was always a common error with a Flash method that was very difficult to solve, and that step and brought us back many hours. However, with much testing and resilience, we were able to get around the issue and continue with our product. Another challenge we ran into was time. Initially, we had wanted to incorporate many other features into our site which we were unable to. However, with the time that we had, we were able to decide on our best features, and work on the rest with our own time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Throughout this Hackathon, as beginners, we had learned huge amount of information about programming apps, websites, and full stack programming overall. We are most proud of how we were able to come up with what we thought was an important problem in the world and create a whole project from scratch. This shows that in the future, we are capable of bringing many other ideas to life.
What we learned
From our project, we learned how to integrate many different parts of a project together, as well as linking different programming languages together to accomplish different goals. Overall, the whole group developed a much stronger skill of HTML, CSS, and Flask, which we can incorporate into future projects related to computer science.
What's next for MediTrack
In the future, we want to add more features to our website, including a more aesthetic user interface. These other improvements include a comparing software, in which we would use web scraping to gather information about different healthcare providers, and contrast the different aspects of each. This would allow personalized choices to healthcare for all, and lead to a better suiting plan for individuals. With these new additions, we plan to publish our website to a larger domain, with a greater amount of public use, and soon grow it into a larger helper company, giving easy choices to people looking for healthcare.
