Inspiration
We noticed how patients with multiple chronic conditions, including my own parents and friends’ parents, often struggled with remembering their medications. They would either forget when to take them, mix up the timings, or feel overwhelmed by the number of pills they had to manage, which made us realise this is a daily headache for many patients. Seeing how this affected their health and peace of mind inspired us to create a solution that makes medication adherence simpler and more reliable.
What it does
MediTake is an all-in-one app designed to assist with secondary medication non-adherence. It provides personalized reminders synced to meal times, motivational quotes and messages to encourage adherence, and an AI chatbot—DosePal—to answer medication-related questions instantly. Patients can also log their medications, book teleconsultations for clarifications, and receive ongoing verification and check-ins to ensure doses are actually taken. We aim to tackle the congitive, educational and motivational aspects, which are the main pain points regarding medication non-adherence. Our app would be able to offer deeper engagement, verification, education and seamless integration into the healthcare system.
How we built it
We started by identifying the most common pain points patients face in managing medications and translated them into app features. The backend integrates reminder scheduling and logging, while the chatbot leverages AI for conversational support. We designed the user interface with simplicity and accessibility in mind, so even older adults can use it comfortably.
Challenges we ran into
-Making reminders feel supportive rather than intrusive. -Designing an interface simple enough for elderly users with minimal tech familiarity. -Integrating both motivational and verification features without overwhelming the user. -Ensuring that check-ins could be effective without feeling like surveillance.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-Creating a seamless experience that combines reminders, motivation, and accountability in one app. -Building DosePal, a friendly AI companion that patients can rely on for medication-related questions. -Designing a system that addresses real-life struggles we observed in our own families.
What we learned
We learned how complex and personal medication adherence really is, reminders alone aren’t enough. Patients need emotional encouragement, easy access to clarifications, and consistent follow-up to truly stay on track. Technology can support this, but it must be empathetic and user-centered.
What's next for MediTake
We plan to pilot MediTake with small patient groups to gather real-world feedback, refine the app’s usability, and strengthen its motivational features. From there, we aim to collaborate with healthcare providers to integrate MediTake into chronic care programs, scale its adoption, and ultimately help more patients lead healthier, worry-free lives.
