🌟 Inspiration

Medical prescriptions are one of the most critical pieces of communication in healthcare — and yet, they are often the least clear. Handwritten notes, complex drug names, unclear dosages, and language barriers regularly leave patients confused. Even a small misunderstanding can lead to missed doses, overdosing, or delayed recovery.

The deeper frustration isn’t a lack of medical knowledge — it’s the gap between clinical instructions and patient understanding. Patients are expected to interpret prescriptions without tools designed for clarity or interaction.

We asked a simple question:

Why can’t understanding a prescription feel as simple and guided as using a modern digital assistant?

That question became Prescriptly.

🤖 What It Does

Prescriptly transforms traditional prescriptions into a clear, interactive, and AI-assisted digital experience.

Users can:

Digitally view prescriptions in a structured, readable format

Add and manage medicines with dosage, timing, and instructions

Interact with an AI chatbot to understand medicines in simple language

Ask questions like “When should I take this tablet?” or “What happens if I miss a dose?”

Access prescription details anytime, anywhere

Instead of static text, Prescriptly turns prescriptions into conversations.

🛠️ How I Built It

Prescriptly is designed as a full-stack, cloud-deployed application.

The frontend is built using React to provide a clean, responsive, and accessible interface suitable for users of all age groups. The UI focuses on simplicity, readability, and minimal cognitive load.

The backend handles business logic, prescription data processing, and AI communication using Flask/Node.js. AI services power the chatbot, allowing natural-language interaction around medicines and health instructions.

Firebase is used for secure authentication and user management, ensuring that prescription data remains private and tied to verified users. The entire system is deployed to the cloud for real-time access and scalability.

⚡ Challenges I Ran Into

One major challenge was ensuring that AI responses remained helpful but safe, especially in a healthcare context. The system had to provide guidance without crossing into diagnosis or unsafe recommendations.

Deployment introduced additional complexity — environment variables, authentication domains, and cloud configuration required careful handling to ensure smooth user login and API communication.

Designing an interface that works equally well for tech-savvy users and first-time smartphone users was another challenge, requiring multiple UI iterations and usability testing.

🏆 Accomplishments That I’m Proud Of

Prescriptly is now a fully deployed, working healthcare assistant that converts complex medical prescriptions into understandable digital content. The AI chatbot delivers real-time, meaningful responses that improve patient confidence and comprehension.

Successfully integrating authentication, AI interaction, and cloud deployment within a hackathon timeline was a significant achievement. Most importantly, the product addresses a real, everyday healthcare problem with a practical and scalable solution.

📚 What I Learned

This project strengthened my understanding of full-stack development, AI integration, and secure cloud deployment. I learned how to design systems that balance automation with responsibility, especially in sensitive domains like healthcare.

I also gained experience in building user-centric applications — focusing not just on what technology can do, but on how people actually interact with it under real-world constraints.

Future development will focus on:

Speech-to-text for voice-based prescription input

Automated medicine reminders and adherence tracking

Multilingual support for broader accessibility
