Inspiration

Millions of people face significant when they see complex medical terminology in their lab results while waiting for a doctor's appointment. MediScan was born to bridge this "health literacy" gap and turn fear into understanding.

What it does

MediScan is an AI-powered assistant that translates intricate medical data into plain, understandable language. It visualizes lab results using interactive dashboards, color-coded reference ranges ( ), and provides personalized questions for patients to ask their doctors.

How we built it

We utilized a modern tech stack including Next.js and Tailwind CSS for a professional medical UI. The analysis engine is powered by GPT-4o, which deciphers medical jargon. We used v0.dev for rapid prototyping to focus more on the social impact and logic of the system.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was ensuring the sensitivity of medical data while simplifying the language. We worked extensively on prompt engineering to minimize the margin of error ( ) and standardize various lab report formats into a single, clean data structure ( ).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have built a functional MVP that can potentially increase the health literacy rate—calculated as —from to over . Creating a solution that addresses a real-world global health problem in such a short time is our biggest win.

What we learned

We learned the ethical importance of "AI for Social Good." We experienced how modern tools like v0.dev can be leveraged to build ethical, scalable, and "AI-First" solutions quickly without compromising on user experience.

What's next for MediScan

Next, we aim to integrate live OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to scan physical papers in real-time and add multi-language support for global travelers and expats who struggle with foreign medical systems. One of our biggest goals is to fix the fact that our prototype isn't fully utilizing the data. What you're seeing is a preview of the application. Over time, we aim to incorporate artificial intelligence to provide our users with even better experiences.
