Inspiration
When I was really unwell, I had to take a lot of medicines. Over time, I noticed they were starting to have negative effects on my organs, especially my liver and kidneys. It was scary because I didn’t know if what I was taking was actually safe for me long-term. That experience made me think—most people don’t really know the risks of the medicines they’re taking. I wanted to solve that problem so others wouldn’t go through the same thing.
What it does
My project, MediSafe, lets you scan or voice-search any medicine to see its impact on organs like the liver or kidney. It tells you if it’s safe to take, suggests safer or Ayurvedic alternatives, and helps you make better decisions. I also added a SaaS model where users can pay to consult real MBBS doctors through the app for personalized advice. This way, people can be better informed about their medications and get professional help if they want it.
How we built it
I started by researching common medicines and their side effects on organs. Then I built a system to recognize medicines via scanning or voice input. I implemented a database that maps medicines to their risks and suggests alternatives, including Ayurvedic options. For the SaaS part, I added a payment system and set up a platform to connect users with verified doctors who can consult with them online. The tech stack includes [you can fill in your stack here—like React, Node, Firebase, etc.].
Challenges we ran into
One big challenge was figuring out what to show the user when they searched for a medicine. It took time to design a clear, helpful result that would be understandable to non-medical users. Another challenge was suggesting meaningful alternatives, especially Ayurvedic options, which required careful curation. Integrating the payment and doctor-consult features also had its own complexities, since it needed to be secure and user-friendly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The biggest accomplishment is that I built something to solve a real problem I faced myself. It feels good to know this can help others make safer health decisions. I’m also proud of designing a working SaaS model that connects users to actual doctors, turning it from just an idea into a potential real business.
What we learned
One thing I really learned is that if you want to create a real business or SaaS product, you have to focus on a real, meaningful problem. It’s not enough to just build something cool—it has to actually help people. I also learned a lot about building user-friendly systems, integrating payments, and thinking about user trust when it comes to health data.
What's next for MediSafe Medicine safety analyzer
I want to expand this to support global users. For example, premium members in India could choose to consult with international doctors if they want, while others can talk to local doctors. The idea is to offer more personalized, accessible, and even AI-assisted recommendations tailored to users’ needs and budgets. I also want to keep improving the database of medicines and alternatives to make it even more helpful.
