Inspiration
We were inspired to build MediMatch AI after seeing how many people struggle to afford their medications, especially those without insurance. We wanted to create a tool that could help anyone find safer, more affordable alternatives.
What it does
MediMatch AI allows users to enter their prescribed medication, budget, and preferences, and it recommends cheaper options, highlights risks, and even suggests supplements. It also includes an AI chat assistant that can answer open-ended medication questions.
How we built it
We built the app using Python, Streamlit, and a local AI model with Ollama, which means it runs completely offline with no cloud or internet required.
Challenges we ran into along the way
Qe learned how to integrate AI into a clean user interface, stream real-time responses, and simplify complex medical info for everyday users. Our biggest challenge was tunneling from the GPU to our server.
Accomplishments
We're proud of is knowing this tool can truly help people in the real world especially those who may not have access to a doctor, insurance, or expensive tools.
What we learned
Throughout this project we learned to use Ollama and make the ai bot connect with python.
What's next for MediMatch AI
Our plan is to expand our website to a mobile app next with a bigger data base for a bigger consumer.
