Inspiration

Accessing quality healthcare remains a challenge for millions especially when patients must navigate between hospitals, labs, and doctors, often across language barriers and with limited real-time data. Inspired by personal experiences and stories from rural and urban India, we set out to build an app that simplifies healthcare journeys for everyone, everywhere. We imagined a platform that could map out healthcare just like Google Maps maps the roads with real-time data, instant accessibility, and intelligent support. That vision became MediMap.

What it does

MediMap is an intelligent, multilingual healthcare platform that allows users to: Find nearby hospitals, clinics, labs, and test centers using GPS and Google Maps integration Book real-time appointments with doctors across 20+ specializations Consult with doctors via video calls and download prescriptions instantly Interact with an AI-powered chatbot for appointment help, medical history, and guidance Scan prescriptions and track past/future test reports Calculate BMI, get categorized results, and receive health tips Switch between multiple accounts easily, like social apps Trigger emergency calls directly to nearby ambulance or hospitals View daily offers from hospitals, labs, and clinics (powered by Bolt IoT) Use in multiple languages to support users from diverse regions Claim medical insurance right from the profile page

How we built it

  1. Frontend: Designed using Flutter/React Native (with Lato font and smooth transitions), featuring gradient themes and a responsive UI. Backend: Built using Node.js and Firebase/Firestore for real-time sync and secure data storage. APIs Integrated: Google Maps API for live location and hospital suggestions OpenAI for Chatbot integration EmailJS / Firebase Auth for OTP-based authentication IoT: Integrated with Bolt IoT to fetch real-time hospital offers and dynamic health data. Database: Separate databases for user login, profile, appointments, hospitals, labs, and chat history Real-time fetch of user history (consultations, tests, BMI, etc.)

Challenges we ran into

Implementing secure real-time OTP verification Managing large volumes of location data across India & the U.S. Creating smooth transitions and tutorials that are friendly but not overwhelming Training a chatbot to respond meaningfully using existing and new user data Integrating multiple services (location, video calls, emergency, scanning) into a single seamless platform Ensuring real-time connectivity with Bolt IoT modules for live hospital updates

What we learned

Through this project, our team gained hands-on experience in: Building full-stack apps with real-time IoT data integration Using Bolt AI and Google APIs for smart healthcare mapping Creating secure user authentication flows with OTP email verification Designing multilingual and inclusive UIs Managing relational databases and data visualization for health records Incorporating AI chatbots and emergency service triggers We also explored UX storytelling through tutorial flows and learned how to prioritize accessibility in every design and decision.

What's next for Medimap

Expand doctor and hospital listings with real-time availability and ratings Add voice support and speech-to-text features for elderly and differently-abled users Introduce automatic medical bill processing for insurance claim validation Partner with hospitals and clinics for live appointment slots and discounts Add personalized health dashboards based on user health patterns Enhance the AI chatbot with LLM integration for deeper interaction Integrate vaccination records and reminders Launch in more regions with localized medical databases and language packs Improve privacy layers and encrypted medical history storage
