Inspiration
Every 2 minutes, a life is lost or permanently altered due to misdiagnosis in North America. Sophia's tragic story at age 23 is not unique — it's a devastating result of system-level inefficiencies in healthcare. Long wait times, incorrect diagnoses, and missed tests point to a need for smarter, faster, and more supportive healthcare workflows. MediLink was born out of a desire to give every patient — especially those like Sophia — a fair chance at timely, accurate care.
What it does
MediLink is a secure, AI-powered digital bridge between patients, doctors, and government healthcare systems. It:
Helps patients input and track symptoms using a chatbot
Stores medical history and links it with diagnosis logic
Provides doctors with a complete, AI-assisted patient profile
Suggests possible diagnoses, tests, and treatments
Sends finalized care plans to the patient seamlessly
Reduces manual input, paper trails, and system fragmentation
How we built it
We built MediLink using:
Frontend: Figma UI mockups (mobile for patients, web for doctors)
Backend logic (MVP): AI/LLM integration to power symptom analysis and diagnostic suggestions
Data Handling: Emulated secure transmission and integration with centralized health systems (like MSP)
Design Philosophy: Built on 3 core pillars — Effectiveness, Reliability, and Security
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring AI outputs were helpful, but not overstepping doctor authority
Designing a UI that could work for both tech-savvy and non-tech users
Creating a system that respects privacy and compliance regulations
Building a user experience that feels simple yet medically robust
Balancing general diagnosis with rare case flagging (the “Sophia test”)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a cross-platform design for a high-impact healthcare solution in a short time
Designed a system that improves diagnostic workflows without disrupting doctor discretion
Created a compelling and emotional story that connects deeply with the problem
Validated a real-world market need with billion-dollar scale
Came together as a strong, diverse team to make something that truly matters
What we learned
Even small changes in early-stage care can save thousands of lives
Empathy + tech = impact — the human side of healthcare must guide design
AI is powerful, but human oversight remains critical
Market opportunities in healthcare tech exist if you solve real inefficiencies
Presentation matters — Sophia’s story made the data real
