Inspiration

Healthcare is often overwhelming: patients struggle to understand medications and paperwork, while providers juggle countless tools. We wanted to create a simple bridge that makes healthcare clearer, more connected, and easier for both patients and providers.

What it does

MediLink is a digital healthcare companion that acts as a personal healthcare agent, lets patients scan medication barcodes for details, enables secure patient to provider communication, provides safe EMR data access, streamlines visits with a pre-check-in chatbot, and supports patients with a free triage chatbot.

How we built it

We combined barcode scanning tools, a secure messaging platform, EMR integration with mock Synthea data (to a) avoid HIPPA problems and b) not have to go through creating tons of datapoints manually for our platform), and conversational AI chatbots utilizing Llama API into one cohesive system.

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring data privacy while simulating EMR access. Building smooth patient–provider communication flows. Designing chatbots that feel professional yet approachable. Getting our camera app to connect...

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A working prototype that integrates multiple healthcare features into a single platform. Building a clean, minimalistic interface that patients and providers can both use without friction. Creating a vision that has potential to scale into real-world healthcare solutions Extra proud of getting a camera scanning functionality and having accurate chatbots that respond intuitively

What we learned

How to handle and model mock EMR data. The importance of designing with clarity and trust in healthcare apps. How small automation (like pre-check-in) can save massive time for providers.

What's next for MediLink

Expanding integrations with real EMR systems. Partnering with healthcare organizations to test real-world use cases. Scaling MediLink to become a trusted complete healthcare companion. Also, we hope to add other aspects of the healthcare journey that may spread beyond the office such as insurance coverage. Being able to predict insurance costs depending on your provider can be helpful for a patient to know before hand.
