Inspiration

After facing significant challenges in finding a job post-graduation and experiencing mental health struggles, especially around Men's Mental Health Day, I was inspired to create Medilink. My goal was to build a platform that offers a supportive community and seamless access to mental health and healthcare resources, regardless of background or circumstance.

What it does

Medilink provides a space where individuals can join support groups, participate in events promoting mental well-being, and access healthcare services 24/7. It aims to reduce stigma, foster inclusivity, and empower users to take charge of their mental and physical health.

How we built it

I started by defining the core features and user experience that would meet the diverse needs of our community. Using borrowed resources, I developed a web application leveraging modern technologies such as React.js for the frontend and Node.js for the backend, Gemini AI for RAG and data analytics and Supabase for the database. I focused on creating a user-friendly interface and ensuring robust security for sensitive health information.

Challenges we ran into

The primary challenge was the initial lack of equipment and financial resources. Not having a personal laptop delayed project development and testing. Additionally, navigating the complexities of healthcare regulations and ensuring data privacy posed significant hurdles.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges, launching Medilink and seeing it positively impact users' lives has been immensely rewarding. I've successfully built a platform that promotes mental health awareness, facilitates community support, and provides reliable healthcare information to those in need.

What we learned

Through this journey, I've learned the importance of perseverance and resourcefulness in overcoming obstacles. I gained insights into healthcare technology, user-centric design, and the critical need for accessible mental health resources.

What's next for MediLink

I aim to expand Medilink's reach, enhance its features based on user feedback, and forge partnerships with healthcare providers to offer more comprehensive services. The vision is to scale Medilink nationally, ensuring that it continues to make a meaningful impact on mental health care accessibility and support.
