Inspiration

Healthcare access is still deeply unequal, especially in rural and underserved regions where timely medical help is often difficult to reach. We were inspired by the “last-mile healthcare gap,” where treatment exists but people cannot access it quickly due to distance, language barriers, or lack of awareness. This led us to ask how technology can connect people in distress directly to NGOs and healthcare responders in real time.

What it does

MediLink AI is a real-time health response system that allows users to report medical issues through voice or text in their own language. The system analyzes severity using AI and forwards critical cases to an NGO dashboard along with user location. NGO admins can view symptoms, urgency level, and track the user on a live map for faster response.

How we built it

We built MediLink AI as a full-stack application using a modular system. The frontend is a responsive interface for mobile and desktop. The backend is built with Node.js and Express for handling reports and routing. An AI layer processes symptoms and determines severity. Location services enable optional geolocation tracking, and the NGO dashboard displays incoming cases with live tracking on a map.

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges in converting natural language symptoms into structured severity levels, ensuring accurate AI-based triage, handling real-time location tracking while respecting privacy, and designing a system that works under low connectivity conditions. Building a simple yet powerful interface for emergency use was also a key challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built an end-to-end AI-powered health reporting system with real-time NGO routing and location tracking. We integrated AI triage, geolocation, and dashboard monitoring into one system and aligned it with UN SDG 3 for real-world healthcare impact.

What we learned

We learned how AI, geolocation, and UX design can combine to solve real-world healthcare problems. We also gained experience in building systems that balance speed, accuracy, privacy, and usability in critical situations.

What's next for MediLink AI

We aim to scale MediLink AI into a real-time health response network by improving AI accuracy, partnering with NGOs, deploying a cloud-based infrastructure, building a mobile app, and strengthening privacy and verification systems for real-world adoption.
