MediLens - The LLM for Medical Diagnostics
The first multimodal AI platform that unifies medical imaging, biosignals, and voice biomarkers into a single diagnostic intelligence engine.
Inspiration
Healthcare is fundamentally broken. 84% of medical errors stem from delayed or missed diagnoses. Meanwhile, 2.6 billion people lack access to basic diagnostic services. Specialists are overworked. Rural clinics have no access to expert interpretation.
We asked ourselves: What if we could build an LLM-like unified intelligence for medical diagnostics? Not a chatbot that regurgitates information, but a true multimodal reasoning engine that ingests raw medical data and produces clinician-grade interpretations.
MediLens is our answer: the world's first production-grade diagnostic AI platform that fuses retinal imaging, acoustic biomarkers, cardiac signals, and radiological scans into a unified clinical intelligence layer.

Challenges we ran into
Technical Challenges
Multimodal Unification: Building a single platform that processes images, audio, and time-series signals required designing a universal pipeline interface that abstracts modality-specific complexity.
Quality Gating: Medical AI fails silently on bad data. We built pre-inference quality gates that reject blurry images and noisy audio before wasting compute on unreliable predictions.
Real-time Processing: Achieving <2s inference while maintaining 90%+ accuracy required careful model optimization, async processing, and intelligent caching.
Cross-modal Reasoning: Connecting findings from eyes, voice, and heart into a unified clinical picture required building an LLM-powered orchestration layer.
Design Challenges
Clinical Trust: Doctors won't use tools they don't trust. Every prediction includes confidence scores, uncertainty flags, and visual explanations.
Complexity Management: Making advanced AI accessible to non-technical users while preserving the depth clinicians need.
Solutions Implemented
- Modular Architecture - Each diagnostic module is independent with standardized interfaces
- Async Processing - Non-blocking ML inference with real-time progress indicators
- Uncertainty Quantification - Models report when they're unsure, flagging cases for human review

What we learned
AI/ML Insights
Multimodal AI requires universal pipeline interfaces from day one. Quality gates are as important as model accuracy. Inference optimization is critical for real-time healthcare. Explainability is non-negotiable in medical AI. Cross-modal reasoning requires LLM-level intelligence.
Product Development
Clinical trust must be earned through transparency. Healthcare UX requires different patterns than consumer apps. HIPAA compliance shapes every technical decision. Voice output dramatically improves accessibility for busy clinicians.
Startup Strategy
Platform approach beats point solutions in healthcare AI. The "LLM for diagnostics" framing resonates with both technical and non-technical audiences. Clinical partnerships are more valuable than pure tech talent/
