Problem Statement

The Recommended Doctor-Patient Ratio by World Health Organization (WHO) is 1:1000. But in India, the ratio for the same is 1:11000. And in some states like Bihar, that ratio worsens to as much as 1:28000, which is a matter of grave concern. Do you know if each doctor will have even 5 minutes of extra consultation time every day, thousands of lives can be saved every year?

Even then in Urban areas, the Healthcare facilities are still adequate. Whereas rural areas suffer from a lack of both manpower as well as machinery. For most of us, the image, the essence of India lies in Metros like Mumbai and Bangalore. But the matter of fact remains that even now, 70% of Population lives in Rural Areas. That's the real India. But sadly, they have access to only 10% of the assets of our Healthcare system. 76 million citizens still do not have access to a Doctor.

And on basis of these issues, we came up with our Problem Statement.

Solution

MediGo is an app-based tele-consultation platform tailor-made for both the Patients as well as Doctors. It tries to bridge the gap of communication between Doctors and Patients in remote areas by providing a platform for tele-consultation while also digitizing the existing system of Medical Reports and Prescriptions.

Connect to a Doctor with just one click

If the user is suffering from any ailment, he can just open our App, answer a few questions asked by our Chatbot regarding the patient's symptoms, previous medications and conditions, which will then automatically generate a Medical Report and connect the User with a suitable Doctor.

Seamless and Flexible Means of Consultation

Now, the Patient can interact with the Doctor via text messaging. And if he needs a more immersive interaction, then he can opt for Audio or Video Calls with the Doctor. We provided such various modes of interaction to accommodate patients from each sector of society, and making them feel at ease during the process.

Based on the session and the patient’s condition, the Doctor will write down a prescription for the Patient. This prescription, as well as the Medical Report both will contain the Doctor’s digital signature, so that it can be used in other Hospitals and Pharmacies like a normal prescription to purchase medicines or for reference at hospitals.

MediLocker - Your Digital Healthcare Repository

All these medical reports and prescriptions of the Patient are stored in a secure locker, where he/she can view and export them. They can be used within the app itself for future consultations, and can also be downloaded for usage in offline appointments in hospitals and clinics, so that the patient doesn’t have to carry around a bunch of medical reports every time he/she visits a hospital for a checkup.

Offline Appointments

If at the end of an online consultation the patient feels an offline appointment is completely necessary for his/her ailment, then a offline appointment can be booked at the same doctor’s clinic. A Doctor can register his clinic on our platform, following which Patients can book appointments at the clinic during the available time slots.

Technology Stack

  1. Flutter - For building both our Mobile Applications, we use Flutter, Google's hybrid app framework, to save development time and build and deploy our product to both Android and iOS in the same Timeframe.
  2. Firebase - We use Firebase, a BaaS (Backend as a Service) as our backend as it provides many features such as Email and Social Media Authentication, Cloud Storage, no-SQL Database and Cloud Messaging out-of-the-box that we required in this project
  3. Natural Language Processing - The Chatbot in this project was created using Google DialogFlow to create an immersive and interactive experience for the patient while noting down their symptoms and conditions.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge for us was getting in touch with Doctors for conducting our Beta Testing. During these strenuous times, Doctors have their hands full with COVID19 duty. It was a difficult task getting in touch with Doctors for showcasing our Idea and Prototype to them, getting suggestions and feedback and also convincing them to give it a chance. Only after extraneous networking efforts, did we get some support and valuable feedback from some Field veterans, for which we will be forever indebted.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  1. Runner's up at Trithon 2020, an inter-college Hackathon in which teams from all over Odisha participated.
  2. Won the title of 'Best Pitch' at the Community Day of Cisco ThingQbator Internship Program for the Startup Track.

What I learned

This was a great journey of Learning for us, both technically as well as non-technically. We managed to get our hands dirty with various new technologies, whether it was Flutter for building the Mobile Application, or DialogFlow for training our Chatbot.

We also got the opportunity of interact with various veterans of the Healthcare industry, doctors, pharmacists, everyone. The perspective we got from these talks is irreplaceable.
