Inspiration

Our inspiration stems from the incredible work of non-profit healthcare organizations. These groups often face unique challenges, from limited budgets to the complexity of navigating healthcare systems. Our goal was to build an AI-powered platform that directly addresses these challenges, simplifying the process for both patients and providers, and ultimately helping non-profits serve their communities more effectively.

What it does

MEDIFRIEND is an AI-driven website designed to offer a seamless user experience akin to interacting with a real person. It helps users quickly and easily find in-network healthcare providers and suitable insurance plans based on their personal needs and budget. Whether it’s locating the right doctor or navigating insurance complexities, our platform delivers tailored, human-like assistance, helping users make informed decisions with ease.

How we built it

We developed MEDIFRIEND using a range of powerful technologies. The front-end was built using React.js to ensure a responsive and user-friendly interface. For the AI component, we utilized Streamlit, integrating advanced models and Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-40 mini and gemini-pro to provide natural language processing capabilities. Our data is efficiently managed with SQLite, ensuring cost-effective and reliable storage. This combination allows us to deliver a scalable, AI-powered solution on a budget.

Challenges we faced

One of the main challenges was fine-tuning the large language model to accurately interpret user queries in natural language and then retrieve the correct information from our database. Balancing the complexity of medical data with the simplicity of user queries was a particularly tricky aspect of the development process.

Accomplishments we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of the product we have created. Despite working with budget-friendly technologies, we’ve built a robust and user-friendly AI-powered platform that achieves our vision. The fact that we were able to make such a powerful tool accessible to non-profit organizations and their users is something we take great pride in.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we gained invaluable insights, particularly from the hackathon environment. We learned how to effectively collaborate with a diverse team, mastered new technologies, and refined our skills in AI and deep learning implementation. Most importantly, we deepened our understanding of the healthcare sector and the unique challenges faced by non-profits.

What's next for MEDIFRIEND

MEDIFRIEND has the potential to expand and tackle a wider range of issues within the healthcare industry. Our future goal is to evolve the platform into a comprehensive solution for non-profit healthcare organizations, addressing various challenges they face—from streamlining administrative tasks to providing more personalized care. We aim to make MEDIFRIEND a one-stop platform that simplifies healthcare access and management for all.
