Inspiration

Healthcare pricing is one of the least transparent aspects of everyday life. While working on this project, we were surprised by how difficult it is to find the cost of even common procedures like MRIs or blood tests. At the same time, hospitals are required to publish pricing data, but it’s often buried in complex files.

What it does

Users can: Search by procedure category (e.g., MRI, X-ray, dental) Enter a location to find nearby providers Filter results based on their insurance provider or view cash prices Compare prices and distances between hospitals and clinics

How we built it

Frontend: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for a clean, responsive interface Backend: Supabase (PostgreSQL) to store and query structured pricing data APIs: OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim API for geocoding user locations Data: CMS hospital price transparency datasets

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenge was finding the data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is our first hackathon!

What we learned

Through this project, we learned how complex and fragmented the healthcare system is, especially when it comes to pricing and how important it is to design tools that simplify that complexity for users.

What's next for MediFind

We can have more data so it can be more relevant.
