MediCycle promotes safe medicine disposal by guiding users on how to discard unused or expired medicines responsibly, reducing misuse, environmental contamination, and pharmaceutical waste.
Inspiration: Unused and expired medicines are often thrown into household trash, flushed down toilets, or disposed of without proper guidance. This can lead to accidental exposure, environmental contamination, and misuse of medicines. As a pharmacy student, I wanted to create a simple solution that helps people understand how to dispose of medicines more safely and responsibly.
What it does:MediCycle is a simple web-based platform designed to educate users about safer medicine disposal. It provides practical guidance on handling unused and expired medicines and encourages responsible disposal practices instead of unsafe methods such as flushing medicines or throwing them away carelessly.
How we built it:The project was developed as a beginner-friendly web application using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with AI-assisted development. We focused on creating a clean and easy-to-understand interface so that users can quickly find useful medicine-disposal information without needing technical or pharmaceutical knowledge.AI tools were used to assist with website development, content refinement, presentation scripting, and debugging. The project concept, direction, implementation decisions, and final review were performed by the participant.
Challenges we ran into:As first-time developers, building a functional website was our biggest challenge. We had limited experience with web development, deployment, and connecting different parts of the project. We overcame these challenges through AI-assisted coding, testing, troubleshooting, and continuously improving the website based on what we learned.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:Making web for purpose of mankind ,I think is the biggest accomplishment ever.
What we learned:Through this project, we learned how technology can be used to address a real-world healthcare and environmental problem. We also gained experience in planning a web project, designing a user-friendly interface, working with web technologies, and using AI tools to assist with development.
What's next for MediCycle:In the future, MediCycle could be expanded with medicine-specific disposal guidance, location-based information about authorized medicine take-back points, and an interactive system that helps users determine the safest disposal option for different types of medicines.
