Inspiration
Every clinic visit begins with the same frustration: long waiting lines, confused patients, no clear idea of when a doctor is free, and an inefficient token system that has barely changed in decades. Patients are anxious, staff are overwhelmed, and clinics lose time, energy, and credibility due to poor operational flow.
MediConnect was built to solve this exact problem. The goal was to modernize clinic operations without complicating them. The system needed to work fast, stay reliable, and feel natural for patients and clinic staff. The idea was simple: digitize the OPD token system, add real-time clarity, integrate AI where it genuinely helps, and make the entire experience smoother.
What it does
MediConnect provides a complete OPD management workflow. Patients can log in, describe their symptoms, get AI-assisted doctor recommendations, book a token, track their queue live, view visit history, and access prescriptions uploaded by the clinic.
Clinics get a streamlined dashboard where they can manage daily appointments, update token statuses, track backlogs, generate and store prescriptions, search and filter patient lists, and display the live queue on a public screen for the waiting area.
The system handles both sides cleanly while maintaining clear communication and transparency.
How we built it
MediConnect was designed and developed entirely using Base44. The platform allowed fast creation of patient and admin interfaces, database collections for doctors, patients, tokens, and prescriptions, and workflows for booking tokens, updating visits, handling backlogs, and sending notifications.
Gemini AI powers the symptom analyzer and guides patients to the correct doctor based on the problem they describe. Base44’s built-in email system was used for notifying patients when their token moves to InProgress.
The admin dashboard includes dynamic search, filtering, and real-time updates. The patient dashboard includes visit history, appointment tracking, and prescription visibility. The public display screen was built as a standalone view to show token movement inside the clinic.
Challenges
Building a system with multiple roles (patient and admin) required careful planning to avoid breaking navigation and permissions. Linking prescriptions to the correct token and ensuring they appear only for the correct patient took multiple iterations to get right.
Handling backlogs across days and maintaining correct time formatting across different screens also required extra care. Making the UI consistent in both dashboards and ensuring smooth responsive behavior across devices was another challenge.
Integrating AI responsibly was an important part of the system. The goal was to provide helpful guidance without crossing into diagnosis or unsafe claims. This required refining prompts and structuring the AI workflows properly.
What we learned
This project reinforced how powerful no-code platforms can be when combined with AI. We learned how to structure multi-role applications, design clean dashboards, manage relational data, and use workflows in a modular way. The process also highlighted the importance of UX clarity, especially in healthcare systems where confusion can have real consequences.
Working with Base44 and Gemini together showed that AI can meaningfully improve user experience when used in the right areas, such as symptom guidance and patient triage.
