Inspiration
The conflict in Sudan has made it extremely difficult for people to find essential medicines. Many spend hours searching without success, often risking their lives. This inspired us to create a solution that makes medicine availability visible and accessible, even in low-resource settings.
What it does
A platform that helps users quickly find available medicines nearby. It includes: *_Medicine search with location-based results *_Offline functionality and SMS support
How I built it
We used Flutter for the mobile app, Firebase for the backend, and local storage for offline access. SMS integration ensures access for users without internet.
Challenges I ran into
Limited internet access → solved with offline + SMS features
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developed a solution that is practical, scalable, and relevant to real crisis environments Integrated SMS support to reach users without smartphones or data access
What I learned
We learned the importance of designing for low connectivity, keeping solutions simple, and ensuring data reliability in critical systems like healthcare.
What's next for Medicine Availability Finder
*_Improve the user interface *_Expand real-world deployment: Partner with local pharmacies, clinics, and NGOs to start testing the platform with real users and real data *_Improve data accuracy: Add verification systems and incentives for pharmacies to regularly update medicine availability *_Multilingual & accessibility support: Add Arabic and voice-based features to support low-literacy users
