Inspiration

Medical bills can be confusing, inconsistent, and sometimes flat-out wrong. We wanted to build something that empowers people with clarity and transparency.

What it does

We decided to build a service that helps patients identify discrepancies in their medical bills, as well as pointing out any misinformation and overcharges. The program also allows users to find healthcare providers near them based on city and zip code.

How we built it

In addition to using React and Firebase, we used Google's Places API to find local hospitals, and we used a database of hospitals, as well as Tesseract.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a few challenges along the way, including version control issues, and the overall learning curve that comes with the integration of certain APIs and frameworks.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our fast development of powerful features over such a short period of time, such as a geolocator for finding local hospitals.

What we learned

We learned that by starting off small, by city, then going to all of California, we were able to test incrementally, and we also gained experience in group development.

What's next for MediCheck

Next, we hope to implement statistics checking for procedures at various hospitals statewide.
