Inspiration
As a team, we collectively found that we struggled to keep up with the prescribed follow-ups from medical professionals. Specifically, remembering to complete our physiotherapy programs was something we found difficult. From our experience being handed a paper copy of our exercise plan was disengaging and inefficient. Not keeping up with your exercises often leads to worsening of conditions and further complications. We wanted to create a web application that would centralize all the information a physiotherapy patient needs in order to promote a healthy recovery journey.
What it does
Medicare is a platform that provides the patient with an online resource to access all of the information they need. Through Medicare, patients and doctors can stay connected with one another to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment plan. Our differentiating feature includes a reminder system where the caregiver of the patient is reminded to encourage the patient to complete their exercises.
How we built it
We created a functional front-end using React and a prototype in Figma. For our graphics, we used ibisPaintX and Canva.
Challenges we ran into
As beginners, we were unfamiliar with Figma and React, we struggled to use all their features. Another challenge we faced was losing the members of our team that was in charge of the back-end; we had to adapt to our circumstances in order to complete our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have learned new skills working with front-end development and UI/UX design. In addition we are proud to have persevered and pitched a project despite the technical and logistical issues that we faced.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the virtual hackathon experience, collaboration and using Figma and React.
What's next for MediCheck
Our next step would be implementing a back-end database to pull data from. Also, we would use a date API to set up the reminder system with the caregiver. In the future, we would work on making MediCheck mobile-friendly in order to aid user ease.
