Medication Adherence Demo

Inspiration

I came up with this idea when I learned about the AWS IOT Button and conceived of the demo

What it does

AWS IOT Button emulates a Smart Pill Bottle. A single press logs a medication does and sends an SMS to the patient for confirmation. Double press sends a log of the last 10 doses in case the patient forgets when their last doses were. The system can also alert the patient of missed doses and when the dose count is low and a prescription has been auto refilled. All notifications are performed via SMS to help Baby Boomers who may not have SmartPhones or be adept at Apps and push notification.

Family members can check on the patient using Amazon Echo.

How I built it

The system is based on Axway's API Builder (an API Framework and Node.js PaaS based on Node and Express). AWS IOT basically sends API calls to API Builder (via API calls) and all the business logic is built in API Builder. The Alexa Skill implementation is also hosted in API Builder. JavaScript and Node.js are used throughout.
