Inspiration

It all began with one question that haunted us—
How can a small prescription error still cost someone their life in 2025?

We’ve all seen it happen: a missed update, the wrong medicine, or a delay in communication turning a curable condition into a critical one. COVID-19 only magnified these cracks in our healthcare system. That helplessness stuck with us.

So when the Bolt Hackathon came around, we didn’t just see a challenge—we saw a chance to build something meaningful. That’s how MediCare Plus was born.

What it does

MediCare Plus is a real-time, full-stack hospital coordination system that connects doctors, hospital staff, pharmacists, and patients through a seamless flow of information.

🏥 Staff can register patients, track medication progress, and receive real-time updates.
👨‍⚕️ Doctors can digitally prescribe medicines, triggering instant notifications and QR-based prescriptions.
💊 Pharmacists can scan QR codes to view pending prescriptions, dispense meds, and update statuses.
📧 Patients receive clear instructions via email—no handwriting confusion, no guesswork.

We also added 8 psychologically soothing UI themes (Ocean, Space, Nature, Kawaii, etc.) to reduce cognitive fatigue for medical professionals—turning stressful tasks into calmer experiences.

How we built it

🧩 Modular dashboards for Staff, Doctor, and Pharmacist with role-specific flows
📬 Integrated email triggers and QR code generation for prescriptions using Sendgrid
🎨 Focused on responsive UI/UX and visual accessibility for long usage sessions

Challenges we ran into

Balancing simplicity with functionality in a multi-role system
Designing UI themes that were both aesthetically pleasing and cognitively helpful
Ensuring real-time updates across user types with minimal latency
Managing prescription flow without overwhelming the user or cluttering the interface
