Our design's main goal is to improve the healthcare system for underrepresented groups through an app and database to foster equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in the system. Through research, we found that there was a lack of representation of certain groups in medical textbooks. These groups include but are not limited to racial, religious, LGBTQ+, gender, age, and physical and mental ability groups. In consequence, there tend to be misdiagnoses made by medical experts for these groups. In addition, such a lack of information prevents individuals of these groups to learn more about their own health, which affects their health journey. That said, from our design, we hope to increase the medical data on these certain groups through an app and foster a sense of community for these groups who often feel isolated. We plan to do this through three modes of service: Connect, InfoHub, and Research. The first one involves connecting patients to medical practitioners representative of the individuals' background through either a joint forum of experts or an individual conversation. Medical practitioners can also benefit from this because they can connect with other experts that are more aware of the healthcare disparities for certain groups and thus educate one another on such topics. The info hub is to increase access to a database catered to certain groups' needs. They can access articles on important healthcare topics and really engage in learning about their health and the health of others. The final section is the Research where practitioners and patients alike can contribute to ongoing research with the aim of diversifying healthcare for all. With their consent, they provide data and their experiences. A great example of the importance of this is Mukwende's medical handbook on identifying skin diseases in darker skin tones. This was out first hackatho and so we are proud of what we've accomplished. Thank you for your consideration.
