💡Inspiration💡

My inspiration for this project was my brother, who during the pandemic worked 72 hours a week to save lives at the risk of his own, where there were months at a time that I didn't see him because of his work, and with just one app I can completely change his work day.

🦾What it does🦾

The biggest bottleneck of the medical software is redundancy, in every medical consultation the doctors have to fill in all the patient's data again, which makes the consultations more about filling in data than attending the patient.

So based on a survey of 15 medical professionals in Latin America (in which my brother helped me :) we asked them what they would expect from a good medical system, and the majority responded eliminating redundancy of data, the other majority responded help in diagnosis.

And we found that by integrating the two into the medical software itself, consultations went from an average of 20 minutes to just 5.

So I created a simple app in Next.js that allows you to add patients and add data from them, and from this give an automated diagnosis with NLP and allow simply add each consultation to the patient page instead of fill a page with all the information again, plus an fast checker with NLP to make quick queries.

👨🏻‍🔧How I built it👨🏻‍🔧

The app is a monolith in Next.js based on SSR and Serverless Functions, with a postgres database and using prisma as ORM. Authentication is based on magic links with next-auth.

Use of CircleCI

I used CircleCI to make a continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) workflow taking advantage of the tools that this platform contains.

With the workflow I can check the code for syntax errors, do a build to verify that it works as it should, migrate the database automatically on each push to production based on the new schema and even do an automatic deployment in Vercel effortlessly and automatically.

🚨Challenges we ran into🚨

The biggest challenge was to do the CircleCI workflow because I had no experience with this CI/CD system, and I had never worked with relational databases and even less with postgres but I am proud to be able to complete it without problems.

🟢Accomplishments that we're proud of🟢

  • Complete the hack

  • Learn CI/CD with CircleCI

  • Learn Postgresql

  • Learn magic links auth

  • Deploy to Vercel from a CI workflow

🔍What we learned🔍

I learned CircleCI, postgres, prisma for databases, magic links based authentication and a lot about UX.

🛫What's next for MedicAid🛫

I want the app to be the inspiration for better medical software that focuses on the physician experience.
