Inspiration
We were inspired by the current difficulties in the health system and the struggle people face when trying to get a quick feedback on some basic symptoms. With the current labor shortage in the medical field, having some suggestions on possible diseases and specialists to seek confirmation with can help the average person with a user-friendly application. The Endless Medical API provided us with a perfect way to reach our goal by providing us with a reliable source to be able to truly help patients.
What it does
Medic.IO allows clients to enter their symptoms amongst a list of relevant variables to predict diseases. After entering their symptoms, patients can have access to two outputs: a list of most likely diseases/health problems with the corresponding probability and a list of relevant specialists to seek confirmation with to get clarity on the disease they might have. With the use of artificial intelligence, we are able to display with great reliability diseases related to patient symptoms.
How we built it
The front end was mainly built using HTML/CSS. The user interface was made to be user friendly and easy to use, as well as pleasant for the eyes. The back end was coded in JavaScript. It was used to get and post requests to the Endless Medical API and communicate the results to the user interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are particularly proud of being able to come up with a complete, user-friendly application that serves a social purpose. It was important for us to be able to help with our project and we are proud that we were able to do that, especially when it comes to the medical field.
What we learned
While doing this project, we learned how to display important information coming from an API, deal with multiple post/get requests and how to link the frontend and the backend in more efficient ways. We also learned some new features of the languages we used.
What's next for Medic.IO
The Endless Medical API is able to support a high volume of symptoms to be able to predict efficiently diseases. To make this application even more accurate and usable in every day basis, we would add more symptoms possibilities with a wider range of answer choices per symptom. Since this is the kind of application that would be useful everywhere, the next step would be to make a mobile app to support our code.
