Inspiration

Having recently played games such as Satisfactory, I've been yearning for the same productive high one can achieve from mastering supply chains. This inspired this project by pointing it in the same direction by having a couple "resources" which soon turn into many others as you gradually make more money to expand your media outreach.

What it does

There is no ending to the game, your job is to either make a lot of money by exploiting the media with false news and inciting anger amongst society or to make the world how we all wish it were... or both, why not.

How we built it

This was built entirely in Unity using C# and free online sprites.

Challenges we ran into

As a solo dev this year I found it very difficult to make sure I had enough time to get a fully working project finished on time. With game development I feel as though it's very easy to want to work on lots of fun, tiny things but ultimately I only had a short amount of time to do plenty of work. This was only made harder by the fact I haven't used Unity or C# before... oh and the fact that I lost half my code with 5 hours left.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Got it working!...ish. There's plenty more I'd have liked to add to flesh it out a bit more but there just wasn't the time.

What's next for Media Fallout

I was quite keen to try and complicate the game massively to try and match my inspirations. This would have meant adding far more different combinations for producing different "resources", new items to produce said "resources", a shop to provide upgrades, and I certainly would have liked for time to test - especially to find out whether or not the numbers I've set for everything fit the pacing and make it fair. These are all likely next steps.
