Media Assistant Bot

Inspiration

Wanted to keep track of all the anime shows I was currently watching and wanted to be able to see and share those anime with friends in Discord

What it does

It is a bot in discord that stores anime data in 2 categories, watching and watch list, for each user so users can keep trach of the shows they are currently watching and what shows they would like to watch in the future. It also returns the information from MyAnimeList for anime in watch list and the latest episode for anime in watching.

How we built it

We built the bot in JavaScript and used Nodes in order to get the bot to function. We also re-purposed web scrapers in order to get information from websites for anime.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into issues in storing data as the web scrapers were in promise and we had to figure out how to return and store data from promises.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting the bot to be functional and interactive and being able to get around the web scraper problem. We were also proud at making the bot somewhat user friendly.

What we learned

We learned mostly about promises and how they function.

What's next for Media Assistant

We want to incorporate a functionality where the bot will notify users when a new episode of a saved anime is out.
