🚨 The Problem
Every day, millions of senior citizens receive dangerous health tips on WhatsApp (e.g., "Garlic cures cancer" or "Drink hot water to stop heart attacks").
- Text is hard: Typing long queries is difficult for seniors.
- Language is a barrier: Most fact-checkers are only in English.
- Screenshots are unreadable: Seniors often forward images, not text.
- Result: They fall victim to scams and dangerous health advice.
💡 The Solution
Medi-Veritas is an AI-powered accessibility tool designed specifically for the elderly. It acts as a Digital Medical Shield, allowing users to verify rumors using Voice, Screenshots, or Text in their native language (Hindi, Bengali, Spanish, etc.).
✨ Key Features
- 📸 Screenshot Buster: Uses Gemini Vision to read text directly from forwarded WhatsApp images.
- 🗣️ Voice First: Seniors can simply speak their questions instead of typing.
- 🇮🇳 Bharat Mode: Full support for Hindi & Bengali. The app generates verdicts and explanations in the local language.
- 📢 Read Aloud: For users with weak eyesight, the app reads the verified medical result out loud.
- 👨⚕️ Dr. Chat: A context-aware medical assistant that answers follow-up questions kindly.
🛠️ How we built it
We built the backend using Node.js and Express, integrated with Google Gemini 2.5 Flash for the reasoning engine. The frontend uses EJS with a glassmorphism design system to ensure high readability. We utilized the Web Speech API for voice synthesis and recognition, and deployed the entire stack on Vercel.
