Inspiration

Falls are the second most common accidental deaths in elderly people. Primary reason for death due to falls are gaits and balance disorder.

What it does

Smart shoes have different types of sensors that help to identify the degree of gaits whether high, medium, or low. Once identified, the app will help in regular monitoring. The infrared sensor in the front of the shoe will help to detect if any obstacle is present in front of the foot.

How I built it

I created the 3d prototype of the smart shoes. Then the sensors, arduino, gsm chips will be embedded in it with electric charging pin. The data generated, when a person walks, will be sent to the cloud server and the machine learning model deployed there, will help to perform gait analysis and monitoring services. Then for fall prevention, the Infrared sensor will detect any obstacle in front of the foot. If the obstacle is detected then, a small beeper will beep which will save the person from colliding with obstacle. If anyhow, the person falls, then the gyroscope sensor will detect the change in orientation of shoe and will alarm the care-taker of that elderly patient or user.

Challenges I ran into

I am a computer science undergrad, so I faced difficulty in analyzing the parameters that would affect gaits disease. Also, I am an individual participant, so it was difficult for me to create the actual prototype

What I learned

I have learned various things from this hackathon. Like how to complete a task within a short span of time. How to make 3d models and animations. Improved my web development and machine learning skills.
